LG’s indoor garden cultivator for veggies goes to CES 2022

LG Tiiun.

Remember the indoor vegetable cultivator LG launched two years ago? The Korean consumer electronics firm actually launched an updated version in South Korea just a few months ago, although not much about it was known until now.

Called the LG Tiiun (which is Korean for “sprout”), the appliance is a literal walled garden. This freestanding indoor germinator is made for vegetables, but it also takes other plants, such as flowers and herbs.

The main perk of LG Tiiun is its highly-controlled environment. Inside is a Flexible Weather Control System where the Tiiun offers adjustable internal temperature and light that mimics natural sunlight and nighttime. It also has a smart gardening system that delivers water eight times every 24 hours, and humidity control is handled by a built-in Auto Ebb & Watering System that circulates moisture.

It also helps that the Tiiun has a transparent door for gardeners to check in on their cultivars without disturbing them, and its airtight seal keeps bugs out. LG Tiiun pairs with the LG ThinQ app, where users can receive notifications about the garden’s condition, or if the water tank needs a refill.

"LG Tiiun is a practical and convenient solution for busy consumers who want to enjoy a greener, healthier lifestyle at home. A stylish addition to one's home or apartment, our smart gardening system makes growing herbs, leafy greens and flowers fun and simple, even for those of us with zero gardening experience," said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company.

The unit has two shelves where each compartment holds up to six seed packages. Each seed package has 10 holes for germination. According to LG, the firm also sells three types of seed kits. It’s not clear if you can plant your own stuff without relying on LG’s kits, though.

The LG Tiiun will be displayed inside LG’s exhibition booth at CES 2022, happening on 5 January 2022. No further details on its retail availability was shared, but we look forward to planting our own greens in the near future.
