LG is introducing a new look and feel for users and their 2021 4k and 8k TV range with an update of webOS to version 6.0. paired with LG's new Magic Remote, users will experience what LG calls, “a more enjoyable and intuitive content discovery experience”.

The updated home screen looks very up to date with tiles showing content, apps, and information. The new home screen provides faster access to the most frequently used apps and showcases recommendations based on the user’s preferences and viewing history. It also acts as a central hub for settings and the greater webOS ecosystem.

Working better as a pair

webOS 6.0 also supports new voice commands for both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Users will find TV management and searching across streaming services, Internet and broadcast channels easier using their voice. This function can be paired with the new Magic Remote.

Should a user want more information about a program, movie or actor they are watching, by simply speaking out loud, Magic Explorer will deliver content related to what’s showing on-screen so users can learn more about the actors, locations, and other items of interest in the movies and shows they’re watching.

Besides voice recognition, the Magic Remote also comes with hotkeys for accessing popular content providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+. A new function called Magic Tap also brings a host of NFC enabled possibilities to the user. For example, by touching an NFC- enabled smartphone to the remote, users can share content from their phones to the TV or vice versa. They can then view content stored on their mobile phones on their LG TVs while continuing to use their favourite smartphone apps and features

We reached to LG to find out if this update would be rolled out to older TVs in their line-up but they say that older TVs won't be able to install it as it is tied to hardware.

LG’s newest TVs featuring webOS 6.0 will be on display in LG’s virtual exhibition booth during CES 2021 starting January 11.
