LG will be supplying up to 20 million OLED panels for the iPhone 12 lineup this year according to Korean publication The Elec.

While Samsung still supplies the majority of OLED panels for the iPhone 12 lineup, LG is said to have secured orders for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max. Samsung Display is likely to supply 55 million OLED panels for the rest of the iPhone 12 lineup which consists of the 5.4-inch iPhone 12, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.

If the report is true, this will be the first time that Apple has selected a supplier other than Samsung to make OLED screens for its flagship phones at launch. Samsung has been the main supplier of OLED panels for Apple with the launch of the iPhone X in 2017.

The Elec claims BOE has not been approved as an OLED supplier at the moment, and the Chinese company is apparently making another bid. However, a report by tipster Jon Prosser suggests that the 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models will come with BOE-made OLED displays.
