LG may be readying a 17-inch gram notebook

LG gram 13

The LG gram laptops are one of the lightest Windows notebooks you can get today, and they may be about to expand into new territory.

According to The Verge, an FCC filing suggests that there may be an upcoming 17-inch version of the gram. This would put LG in a unique position to appeal to customers who want a light, powerful laptop with a larger screen. After all, Apple hasn't had a 17-inch MacBook Pro since 2012.

The FCC filing lists notebooks with the model numbers "17Z990", "17ZD990", "17ZB990", "17ZG990", and "LG17Z99". It's not super strong evidence of an LG gram 17, but if LG's past model numbers are anything to go by, there's reason enough to hope that we could see a really light 17-inch laptop at CES 2019.

However, according to the same filing, the bigger size doesn't mean more ports. Instead, you'll get three USB, one HDMI, one microSD, and one USB-C connector, the same as the current LG gram 15.

An LG gram 17 could really appeal to content creators and other design professionals, since they get the benefits of a huge screen without the weight associated with a 17-inch laptop.
