LG's upcoming G4 flagship smartphone is officially confirmed to come with a new and improved 5.5-inch Quad-HD (QHD) IPS LCD display panel.

According to LG Display, this new display panel will be used in its "forthcoming flagship smartphone to be unveiled at the end of the month". In case you miss it, LG has sent out invites for a media event on April 28. In its press release, LG Display boasts several new features of the display panel which include:

  • 120% color gamut
  • Higher contrast ratio with 30% increase in brightness
  • Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) technology which leads to a thinner design

Consumers can expect to see richer and more accurate colors on the G4 as LG Display managed to combine a blue LED chip with red and green phosphors instead of combining it with a yellow phosphor in conventional LED backlights.

In addition, the new display panel is able to deliver deeper blacks and brighter colors through the use of a photo-alignment technology where UV light is utilized to form a liquid crystal alignment layer for a higher contrast ratio. While it is 30% brighter, there is no increase in power consumption.

The AIT technology enables LG Display to embed touch sensors within the LCD, which contributes to a slimmer design with better touch response even when there are water drops on the screen.

Display Mate recently concluded that the Samsung Galaxy S6 models currently have the best smartphone displays. Now, it seems that LG is poised to give the Samsung Galaxy S6 models a run for their money with its new display technologies and enhancements on the G4.
