LG estimated to supply up to 5 million OLED panels for the iPhone this year
While Bloomberg’s report stated that LG is supplying between two to four million OLED panels for the iPhone this year, the Korea Times believes the number is slightly higher.
Citing information from an executive at a first-tier subcontractor of LG, the Korea Times claimed that Apple will be getting between 3 to 5 million OLED displays from LG Display. The deal is said to be worth "millions of dollars".
Samsung will continue to supply the majority of OLED panels, but Apple is planning to reduce its reliance on Samsung by engaging LG as a second supplier and diversifying its supply chain.By doing so, Apple hopes to negotiate better prices from Samsung to lower the production costs of the new iPhones.
