LG Display said to be supplying 20 million OLED panels for the iPhone 12
LG Display will be playing a bigger role in supplying OLED panels for Apple this year.
A source told Nikkei Asian Review that LG Display is supplying 20 million OLED panels this year to Apple. This is five times the volume from the previous year. Nonetheless, Samsung is still the main supplier of OLED panels for the iPhones with around 60 million units.
Korean publication The Elec reported in May that LG Display secured orders for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 model. This would be the first time that Apple has selected a supplier other than Samsung to make OLED panels for the flagship phones at launch.
Apple is also said to be assessing production quality of OLED panels at BOE plants in China and industry sources believe it's a matter of time before BOE's OLED screens may be used for the iPhones.
