LG and Samsung said to suspend supply of display panels to Huawei

Following news of Samsung and SK Hynix not taking chip orders from Huawei, Korean publication Chosun Biz now claims that Huawei may not be able to get display panels from Samsung and LG.

According to the Korean publication, Samsung and LG have decided to halt the supply of "premium" smartphone displays to Huawei from 15 September to comply with the U.S trade restrictions. The loss of two foreign display suppliers means that Huawei has to find domestic alternatives. It is said to be assessing display panels from domestic firms such as Visionox, Tianma and CSOT.

Aside from display panels, an industry source told Chosun Biz that Huawei may also have difficulties securing important components such as display and touch controller chips. With no access to Google Mobile Services, chipsets, display panels and touch controller chips, Huawei's smartphone business may take a huge hit in the coming months while it searchs for local suppliers.
