Let there be more light - Philips Hue updates smart bulb range

Recently, lighting professionals Philips updated their range of smart consumer lighting products by introducing both new and newer versions of smart bulbs and light strips. Judging by their releases, you could have light in every nook and cranny of your house, and more.

Philips Hue White A21.

The first of the bunch is the Philips Hue White A21 bulb. The flagship Philips Hue bulbs need no introduction. This White A21 bulb, however, offers a light output of up to 1,600 lumens. That's really bright - typically, you'll use 1,000 lumens or higher for outdoor lighting, so the new Philips Hue certainly satisfies most brightness needs. According to Signify, the parent company in charge of brands like Philips, the White A21 is great for garages. The bulb also offers wireless dimming, a crucial feature for people who enjoy mood lighting.

Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus.

The customisable Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus also received an update. Now, folks can re-use pieces they've cut off, or attach loose pieces of the light strip with a connector for use. The new light strip also comes with Bluetooth connectivity for remote commands and doesn't require a bridge (the brain that controls lighting ecosystems).

Philips Hue Bloom.

There's also the Philips Hue Bloom table lamp, and the upgrades offer more vibrant colours (colour temperatures of 2,000K to 6,500K), Bluetooth connectivity, and deep-dimming with a minimum level of under 1%. The white light component of the lamp also got a boost to 500 lumens, making it more consistent with other Philip Hue lights.

What's new is the Philips Hue Centris, a collection of White and Colour ambience LED spot-ceiling lights. They can be adjusted to bring diffused ceiling lighting and focused accent highlights: each light can be controlled individually and have a 350-degree rotation for easy positioning.

Finally, Philips is also introducing Philips Hue White Ambience indoor light fixtures. The entire range covers spots, ceilings, wall lights, pendant lights, table lamps, panel lights, and are all Bluetooth-enabled, too.

Official local pricing and availability aren't out yet, but some U.S. and Europe details were announced alongside the reveal. Details below:

  • Philips Hue A21 - US$19.99 / €24.95, mid-June 2020 onwards
