The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is coming to the Nintendo Switch
Now with 100% less motion controls!
Nintendo has just announced that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is getting a HD upgrade for the Nintendo Switch, launching later this year. This version of the 2011 game (which originally launched on the Nintendo Wii) comes with not just a visual upgrade, but a brand-new control scheme for those who might be averse to the original's motion controls.
Watch a nostalgic trailer for the game:
It looks like our predictions were right - Nintendo is bringing us some game remasters for The Legend of Zelda’s 35th anniversary. The game can still be played with the Nintendo JoyCons, with the left controller held as a shield and the right controller as a sword. For Nintendo Switch Lite users, or players who just want to sit comfortably and play, an alternate control scheme allows players to swing Link’s sword using a joystick.
Zelda boss Eiji Aonuma noted that Skyward Sword introduced multiple innovations to the franchise that would later be incorporated in Breath of the Wild - like searching for items to upgrade gear, using a parachute to glide and a stamina bar to keep track of while climbing. Even if you’re not a big fan of Skyward Sword, you might want to grab its new Zelda-themed JoyCon controllers. They’re so pretty! The left one is themed after Link’s shield, and the right after the Master Sword.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD will hit Nintendo Switch consoles on July 16, 2021. Could we see more Zelda remasters get announced for the Switch soon?
