Lean app cleans up your Live Photos to save space

Loving Live Photos on your new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus but worried about storage space?

Well, Lean is a free app that helps you solve that. It lets you remove the ‘Live’ part of the live photo, and saves the still image, while keeping the exact same metadata (EXIF, GPS, Creation Date) as the Live Photo. You can even select multiple images and clean them up at once.

You can actually remove the video part of the ‘Live Photo’ yourself using the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus’ Photos app, but it’s not exactly an intuitive process.

First, you’ll have to go to the Photos app, tap ‘Edit’, in the screen that follows, tap the blue icon on the top left of the screen so that it turns white, tap ‘Done’, and you’ve turned a Live Photo into a still photo.

Check out our video to see how it’s done (the deleting part starts at 2:36):

From the video above, you can see there are no labels on the blue/white icons, iOS 9 doesn’t explain to you what’s happening during the process nor does it ask you to confirm whether or not you want to delete a file forever. So we recommend you just try Lean (it’s free, anyway), which makes it easier and more intuitive.
