Samsung’s Creative Lab, or C-Lab for short, is sort of an in-house incubation program that lets employees build and experiment with their own start-ups and projects.

In the run-up to CES 2018, the electronics giant has readied a trio of experimental C-Lab projects, among them a portable, directional speaker, a pair of smart glasses that works as a visual aid, and a breathing device to help those with lung damage.

The portable speaker is obviously the most consumer-oriented of the lot, and it’s actually pretty nifty. Dubbed S-Ray (or Sound-Ray), it can output directional audio so you can listen to your favorite tracks anywhere without needing headphones or forcing everyone in the vicinity to put up with your taste in music.

There look to be multiple versions of the speaker in various form factors, including a smartphone cover and a neckband.

The Relumino smart glasses are named after a Gear VR app of the same name that was introduced at Mobile World Congress last year. They’re supposed to serve as an aid for people with impaired vision – once paired with a smartphone, they’ll translate video from the built-in camera into clear or sharper images on the display.

They’re also able to filter or invert colors and eliminate blind spots, so Samsung hopes this could eventually boost the quality of life for the visually impaired, such as by enabling them to read more comfortably.

Finally, GoBreath comprises a portable device and mobile app that guides people in different breathing methods. It’s supposed to help those with lung damage, and the app can monitor progress over time and share details with a doctor.

That said, given that these are all C-Lab projects, it’s not clear that they’ll ever begin shipping out to consumers. All three products will be on display at CES 2018 next week.
