Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled the latest update to Overwatch 2 with the launch of Season 12. Dubbed New Frontiers, the latest update introduces a wealth of fresh content including a new hero and gamemode.

Starting off with the highlight of the season is the introduction of Juno, the game’s first Martian hero. Previously codenamed Space Ranger, Juno was available for a trial weekend a few weeks ago and she will now formally make her way to the roster alongside the launch of the new season.

As a support character, she brings unique abilities to the battlefield, including simultaneous healing and damage-dealing capabilities. To briefly summarise her skills, she has a jump and hover ability similar to Echo, a burst fire weapon as her primary skill, and for her ultimate, she calls down an orbital ray that heals allies and increases their damage. Besides the new hero, Season 12 also sees the introduction of “Clash”, a new game mode designed for fast-paced gameplay. The mode features two new maps: Throne of Anubis, a reimagining of the classic Temple of Anubis, and Hanaoka, inspired by the popular Hanamura area within the game.

The premium battle pass for this season offers players the chance to unlock the Mythic Anubis Reaper Hero Skin and the Mythic Midnight Sun Ana Weapon Skin, along with other legendary skins and rewards across 80 tiers.

On the competitive side, Blizzard is implementing a mid-year rank reset, giving players a chance to climb the ranks again. The developers are also making improvements to the “Avoid as Teammate” feature and tweaking the Group Respawn system in Quick Play.

Additionally, Overwatch 2 is set to join the Xbox Game Pass on 17 September, offering subscribers exclusive in-game items and benefits. Season 12 of Overwatch 2 will go live on 20 August. More information about the update can be found here.
