JBL's new Tour Pro 2 earbuds' charging case has a nifty screen built into it
JBL's latest flagship true wireless earbuds are called the Tour Pro 2 and they have a nifty feature that no other earbuds have: a touchscreen that's built into its charging case.
The screen is 1.45 inches large and you can use it to control the earbuds in many different ways. Apart from playback controls and adjusting the volume, you can also use the screen to toggle between sound modes (ANC and transparency), switch equalizer settings, and more. It can even crank up its brightness and work as a makeshift flashlight.
Cynics might view this as a gimmick but one immediate benefit that I can see is that you don't have to faff about with sometimes ambiguous touch controls or with the app just to access and switch commonly used features like the sound modes and volume. Users can just bring up their charging case, swipe and tap a couple of buttons, and be on their way.
Elsewhere, the Tour Pro 2 features JBL's True Adaptive Noise Cancelling technology that uses four noise-sensing mics to sense its environment and cancel out noise. And like most high-end earbuds with ANC these days, it features a scenario mode that's optimised for certain environments like planes and trains.
The Tour Pro 2 features 10mm drivers and JBL's Spatial Sound technology that claims to deliver a more immersive listening experience. The earbuds also have an IPX5 water-resistance rating.
According to JBL, the Tour Pro 2, with ANC activated, have a rated battery life of up to 8 hours on a single charge and 24 hours more with the charging case. Turn ANC off and these numbers go up to 10 hours and 30 hours respectively.
