Irish Lecturer Finds Way To Silence Vuvuzela - In Your Home

For FIFA World Cup 2010 watchers seeking relief from the annoying buzzing sound of the vuvuzela, help is at hand - by the luck of the Irish, no less!

Dr Sean Marlow, a lecturer at Dublin City University (DCU), has found 2 ways to dull the drone, one of which is practicable for the average viewer to follow. It involves some simple adjustments to your TV or home theatre system's built-in equaliser. Of course, if you don't have an EQ feature, you're out of luck... 

There are two methods, "Marlow Method A" and "Marlow Method B", for dulling the bee-like sound of the hated vuvuzela horns. For Marlow Method A (for a TV with a good sound equaliser), enter the sound setting for your TV and find the equaliser. When you have found this, drop the 233Hz (or closest) channel and raise the adjacent levels. Repeat this for 466, 932, and 1864Hz.
