According to "Digital Chat Station," a Weibo user who is familiar with the technology of upcoming iPhone models, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature a new larger and more advanced main camera sensor.

This new sensor is said to be a customised version of Sony's 48-megapixel IMX903 sensor. It will have a stacked design, a 14-bit analogue-to-digital converter for better image data conversion, and digital gain control for superior dynamic range and lower noise.

Interestingly, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also said last year that the iPhone 16 Pro Max would use a stacked sensor.

The sensor will also be 12% larger, which means it'll be roughly 1/1.14 inch in size. A larger sensor confers numerous benefits, such as better low-light performance, greater dynamic range, and the ability to produce more authentic-looking bokeh (background blur).

Based on rumours, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is shaping up to be a real photography beast. Apart from this rumour of a larger sensor, it's also rumoured to have a super telephoto camera and an all-new 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera sensor.
