iPhone 13 could feature an always-on display and refined matte back

A new report suggests minor design tweaks, camera upgrades and display enhancements for the iPhone 13.

According to EverythingApplePro and Max Weinbach, the iPhone 13 will have a more refined matte back which is texturised and "more grippy" to hold. Apple is also believed to be addressing the issue of weak magnets for MagSafe with a stronger array of magnets.

Aside from the 120Hz refresh rate, the display on the iPhone 13 will be always-on thanks to the adoption of the new LTPO technology. The use of LTPO panels on the iPhone has been reported by TheElec in October 2019.

Like widgets on iOS, the always-on display is expected to have minimal customisability. Time and battery level will be always visible, but notifications will pop up temporarily in a bar and represented by icons.

As for the camera hardware, improved ultra-wide lens are expected to be coming to the iPhone 13 models. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote about the improved ultra-wide lens in a November 2020 report.

Apple is said to be bringing some notable camera software features such as Portrait Mode video where the depth of field can be changed in post processing, and a new astrophotography mode which will automatically switch on when the camera detects stars or the moon.

EverythingApplePro and Weinbach also shared details on other products. They claim that Apple's item trackers, AirTags will be launched in March or April. Contrary to recent reports of the Apple Watch Series 7 having blood glucose monitoring feature, both tipsters do not expect the feature to debut on the next-gen Apple Watch.
