The iPad continues to be the world's most popular tablet in Q3 2018

Apple's recently announced iPad Pros are expected to boost sales through the holiday season.

The iPad continues to be the world's most popular tablet last quarter according to the latest data shared by research firm IDC.

With over 9.7 million units shipped in Q3, Apple garnered an estimated 26.6% of the worldwide tablet market share. This is almost double the shipments of its closest rival, Samsung which shipped 5.3 million units and had a market share of 14.6%. Microsoft, which sells the Surface Pro lineup, did not make it to the top five tablet vendor list.

Overall, the worldwide tablet market declined 8.6% with global shipments falling by 36.4 million. Apple's recently announced iPad Pros with Face ID and new Apple Pencil are expected to help the company boost sales during the holiday season.
