iPad and Mac sales surged in Q3 as more people work from home

The Apple iPad Pro (2020).

Apple reported strong sales of its iPads and Macs for the third fiscal quarter.

According to Apple, the company saw double-digit growth for the iPad and Mac. iPad sales came in at $6.5 billion, up from $5 billion in the same period a year ago while Mac sales hit $7 billion, up from $5.8 billion in the year-ago quarter.

The surge in demand has led to significant supply constraints. Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed the company is working hard to make more iPads and Macs. He also shared that most customers who purchased the iPads and Macs are new to these products; three out of four new customers in China who bought a Mac had never used a Mac before, and two out of three customers buying iPads did not own an iPad previously.

Business Korea reported in May that Apple ordered more LCD displays for the iPad as remote education and telecommuting in Asia led to a surge in demand for the tablet. Data from Sensor Tower also indicated a surge in iPad app downloads and spending due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
