The Apple App Store has just enjoyed a record-breaking holiday season and one of the things worth noting is how the App Store continues to be lucrative for app developers.

According to Phil Schiller, Apple's SVP of Worldwide Marketing, iOS developers collectively earned 30% more in 2017 than 2016.

How much did iOS developers earn in total in 2017? US$26.5 billion.

Additionally, Apple also announced that the App Store experienced a new record on New Year's Day with iOS customers spending a total of US$300 million on that day alone.

Last year, US$240 million was spent on New Year's Day. So 2017 marks an improvement of 25%.

In all, Apple said that users spent over US$890 million over a 7-day period starting on Christmas Eve.

iOS 11 introduced a thoroughly revamped App Store with a stronger focus on editorial and curated content. Games also got its own dedicated section as Apple continues to improve its App Store to make it attractive to app developers.
