iOS 16 could finally bring a long overdue feature to the Apple iPhone 14 Pro.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims in his newsletter that iOS 16 will have future support for an always-on lock screen. The always-on lock screen will have the frame rate reduced significantly to display glanceable information similar to how the always-on display works on the Apple Watch Series 5 or newer models. Gurman added that the always-on lock screen is an exclusive feature for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Apple has been rumoured for years to be working on the always-on display for the iPhone. TheElec reported in 2019 that Apple wanted to use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) panels on future iPhones. These LTPO panels, which are used on the Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models, consume less power than LTPS panels. The iPhone 13 was initially said to come with the always-on display feature, but it was cancelled for unknown reasons.
