Intel poaches key M1 Mac engineer from Apple
Apple has lost a key M1 Mac engineer to Intel.
Jeff Wilcox, the former director of Mac system architecture, shared on his LinkedIn that he is starting a new position as Intel Fellow and CTO of the Design Engineering Group.
Prior to joining Apple 8 years ago, Wilcox worked at Intel for three years as a power management architect for Intel's Atom chipsets. According to Wilcox's profile, he led the transition for all Macs to Apple Silicon, and developed the chipset and system architecture behind the T2 coprocessor.
It is unknown at the moment whether his departure will affect the development of future Apple Silicon chips, but Apple is said to be on track to complete its transition away from Intel chips later this year.
