Intel announces eight new Intel Xeon W-2200 processors that are intended for workstations and servers. They are meant to refresh the Intel Xeon W-2100 series that was launched in August 2017. The new Xeon W-2200 also offer better price points than the previous Xeon W-2100 series. The new Xeon W prices range from US$294 to US$1,333. In comparison, the previous generation Xeon W processors start from US$$294 to US$2,553.

The updated Xeon processors are still based on the LGA2066 socket that’s compatible with the Cascade Lake-X Intel Core processors; however, the former supports enterprise grade requirements that include ECC support and Intel vPro. Despite the socket compatibility, Intel Xeon W-2200 processors required boards based on the Intel chipset C422.

The new Xeon processors feature the updated Intel Turbo Boost Max 3.0 technology and memory support has been upgraded to higher frequency DDR4-2933 (up from DDR4-2666) modules, up to 1TB capacity (per CPU socket for four memory channels). The exception is Intel Xeon W-2223 that supports up to quad-channel DDR4-2666 memory modules.

The top-end Intel Xeon W-2295 processor sports 18 cores, with a base clock frequency of 3.0 GHz, and an all-core turbo boosted frequency of 3.8GHz. Like its Cascade Lake-X core processors, the new Xeon series don’t offer a 16-core SKU. The new Xeon processors support Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, and to 2.5G Ethernet, courtesy of external hardware controllers. There’s also support for Intel Deep Learning Boost, Thunderbolt 3, and Intel Optane SSD 905P.
