With a low single digit share, it probably doesn’t matter to most people than an Instagram app is already available on Windows 10 Mobile since April.

But with Windows 10 running on more than 400 million devices now, most of which being PCs, it does matter that this universal Instagram app has now expanded to Windows 10 PCs and tablets.

Available now in the Windows Store, most of the features of the Facebook-owned Instagram are present in this app, like Instagram Stories, Direct, and Explore. But since this is Windows 10, you also get Windows-only experiences like Live Tiles, which let you see new photos and notifications right from your home screen. Posting and editing photos using touch are also possible in this grown up app, provided your device has a rear camera and touchscreen.

While some Windows users see this as a win for the platform and Microsoft’s universal app strategy, a quick tour of the app shows that there’s still work to be done (not by Microsoft, but Instagram). For example, on a large screen in landscape mode, there’s a ton of white space of both sides, space that could have been put to better use - you know, like showing more photos.

Well, if it’s any consolation, there’s also no iPad-optimized Instagram app at the moment.
