Insta360's new X4 camera shoots 8K videos, has bigger display, and longer battery life

The Insta360 X4 starts from S$739.

Insta360 just announced the successor to the X3 action camera, the Insta360 X4.

The big news is that the Insta360 X4 can shoot 8K 360-degree videos at 30fps, which is a leap from the 5.7K/30fps support on the X3. For slow-mo videos, the X4 can support 4K at 100fps compared to the X3's 3K at 100fps.

The new action camera also sports a slightly bigger 2.5-inch display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass compared to the 2.29-inch screen on the X3.

In terms of battery life, the X4 comes with a 2,290mAh battery which is stated to deliver 67% longer run time than the X3's 1,800mAh battery when recording 5.7K footage. Insta360 claims up to 135 minutes of 5.7K footage and 75 minutes when recording in 8K.

Included in the retail packaging of the X4 is a removable lens guard, which could be handy when recording in harsh weather and environments. The company says its lens guard will not interfere with the 360 stitching process, unlike some third-party options.

Other new features found on the X4 and not on the X3 include Gesture Control (to take a photo or start recording with a quick gesture) and Me Mode support in 4K and 2.7K.

Pricing and availability

The Insta360 X4 is available now with prices starting at S$739. You can find it on Lazada, Shopee, and the Insta360 online store.
