Insta360 Pro V2.0 brings 12K Super-Res Photos to the Insta360 Pro

Insta360 has just released a beta for Insta360 Pro V2.0 – a package of firmware and software updates for the Insta360 Pro camera that adds a slew of improvements for current users.

Image quality upgrades

With the new firmware, images captured by the camera will now have better dynamic range, clarity, and white balance. Insta360 says noise performance has been drastically improved too, as they’ve reworked things for maximum fidelity, and you can see the various improvements in the images below.

12K photo mode

The camera will also gain a new photo mode in which it takes ten 8K images in succession and automatically merges them into a super high-res 12K photo that works for both stereoscopic (3D) and monoscopic shooting. You’ll be able to manually adjust the output resolution from 8.2K to 12K to best suit your headset, so you’ll get better 360 images and videos.

Exposure Curves and Brightness Histogram

Insta360 Pro V2.0 also introduces real-time Exposure Curves to the camera, so you can now adjust the exposure curve in real-time to get perfect color and tone for any photo or video from the camera. As you can see in the video below, this new feature lets you easily target and adjust the exposure of various parts of your image so you can get a better picture.

Stitching Box for Quick, Convenient Stitching

You can now do image stitching directly on the Insta360 Pro, making use of the dedicated hardware for faster stitches even without high-powered computers on hand, as the Insta360 Stitcher Software can now directly connect to the camera.

Zenith stitching optimization

The Insta360 Stitcher software also gains a new feature that allows you to easily fix stitches at the zenith. This traditionally presents itself as a cone-shaped aberration at the highest point of the image, but as you can see in the image below, can now be fixed by a simple toggle switch.

Options for improved Wi-Fi Connectivity

Finally, you can now pair the Insta360 Pro with either your phone’s 4G hotspot or pair it with a mobile router like the officially recommended Netgear Nighthawk M1 to improve the signal strength of the camera. This lets you control it from further away via smartphone or computer and gives you the option of not being in the shot.
