ImmerVision’s new lens is set to revolutionize mobile phone images and video

If ImmerVision’s new 3.8mm panomorph (patented wide-angle panoramic) lens takes off, the selfie shot you struggle with now might just be a lot easier to take in the future. The world’s smallest panoramic lens, it’s also the first to be designed to be fully integrated into mobile phones or small wearable devices, giving these devices the capability to deliver a distortion-free 360^o x 182^o view without even panning the camera.

“If Ellen DeGeneres had a phone with this technology, her famous Oscars selfie would have captured a much wider, clearer, and more natural shot — without any distortion or need to extend the mobile phone more than a few inches from her body,” says company president and CEO, Pascale Nini.

Sounds like boon for selfie takers, but that’s not the only application of the technology, as ImmerVision sees this being used for travel landscapes, events, video chats, teleconferencing and more. With full compatibility with ImmerVision Enables standard, the panomorph lens and its embedded 360^o video technology maximizes the viewing angle on any mobile device to a full 360^o thanks to proprietary (patented) lens and specialized algorithms.

Manufacturing is already underway, and lens and module manufacturer Kolen has already signed up to be the first licensee to produce this lens. According to its president, Mr. Jong Jing Lee, Kolen plans product availability by the end of summer 2014, so these lenses may just be coming to smartphones here sooner than we think.
