Huawei has inked a global patent cross-licensing agreement with Vivo.

In a news release, Huawei shared that the cross-licensing agreement covers cellular standard essential patents including those for 5G. The Chinese company added that the agreement with Vivo was achieved through "amicable negotiation" and it reflects the "mutual respect for the value of each other's patents".

This is probably a jab at the US government for the ongoing trade sanctions against the Chinese company which severely restricted its access to new telecommunication equipment, overseas chip manufacturers, 4G, Wi-Fi, and AI chips.

This is not the first time that Huawei signed a patent cross-licensing deal with another Chinese company. In December 2022, Huawei and Oppo announced a patent cross-licensing agreement which overs standard essential patents on 5G, Wi-Fi and audio/video codecs.
