Huawei is making progress to enrich its HarmonyOS ecosystem

Zhu Yonggang, the President of Huawei Device Cloud, shared at the HarmonyOS Ecosystem development event that he expects to see another 5,000 native apps by the end of this year. The long-term goal is to have more than 500,000 apps in the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

He elaborated that there would be immense growth in the near future as the company collaborates with more developers and partners from enterprises and the education sector. At the time of publication, Huawei is working with partners in more than 18 fields such as gaming and communication.

In addition, Huawei will train more than 100,000 developers every month to boost app development. Huawei has a 7-billion "Shine Star Plan" to boost eco-friendly innovations like HarmonyOS native apps, meta-services and SDKs.

Although the HarmonyOS app ecosystem seems to pale in comparison with the Apple App Store and Google Play, it's important to remember that everyone starts small. The Apple App Store launched in 2008 with only 500 apps and it took 15 years to hit the 1.8 million apps milestone.

While there's no question it will take a while for Huawei to be on a par with Apple and Google, at least the Chinese company is making steady progress towards that goal.
