Huawei just announced its latest clamshell foldable phone, the Pocket 2

The main highlight of the Huawei Pocket 2 is the four external cameras, which is a first for the form factor. The four cameras are:

  • 50MP primary camera with OIS and f/1.6 aperture
  • 12MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture
  • 8MP telephoto camera with OIS and 3x optical zoom
  • AI-powered 2MP hyperspectral camera

The AI-powered 2MP hyperspectral camera deserves a special mention. It functions as a UV sensor and informs you via the external screen of the UV intensity. With the external screen, the user can see the sunscreen application area on the face. It can even intelligently detect deep sun spots on the face and offer facial care tips.

Additionally, the 2MP hyperspectral camera is capable of fluorescence photography which allows you to take fascinating photos of plants in bright and bold colours.

Another noteworthy feature to mention is the new waterdrop hinge. Huawei claims the new waterdrop hinge is built with aerospace-grade steel materials and offers an almost gap-free design for the Pocket 2.

The Huawei Pocket 2 has a 6.94-inch flexible OLED main screen with a peak brightness of 2,200 nits and supports 120Hz refresh rates.

On the exterior is a 1.15-inch OLED screen which can activated to act as an always-on display to show the date and time. The external screen can also be personalised to your preference including an option to put a virtual pet and interact with it, an option to put an avatar, and a 3D emoji wallpaper to reflect your mood for the day.

Powering the Huawei Pocket 2 are the Kirin 9000S chipset, 12GB RAM, HarmonyOS 4, and a 4,520mAh battery which supports 66W wired fast charging and 40W wireless charging.

To keep the Pocket 2 running cool, Huawei equipped the clamshell foldable with a new ultra-cooling vapour chamber that has multiple graphene materials for better thermal conductivity.

Other specs include NM memory card expansion up to 512GB, internal storage options of 256GB/512GB/1TB, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB Type-C port.

The Huawei Pocket 2 is available in four colours: Tahitian Gray, Rococo White, Purple, and Black. Prices start from 7,999 yuan (~S$1,494).
