Besides unveiling the HarmonyOS 2-powered Huawei Watch 3 Series, the Chinese company also announced the new MatePad Pro tablets.

The Huawei MatePad Pro 10.8 comes with a 10.8-inch LCD display (2,560 x 1,600 pixels) and a screen-to-body ratio of 90%. Running under the hood is Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 mobile platform with a 7,250mAh battery. Other specs include 128GB/256GB internal storage options with NM memory card expansion up to 256GB, a rear 13MP f/1.8 autofocus camera, an 8MP f/2.0 front-facing camera, USB Type-C and quad-channel + quad-speaker sound system.

The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 is the higher-end model with a 12.6-inch OLED display (2,560 x 1,600 pixels). Instead of using the Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platform, Huawei chose to equip the MatePad Pro 12.6 with the Kirin 9000E chipset.

Other specs include 256GB internal storage with NM memory card expansion up to 256GB, a rear triple-camera setup (13 f/1.8 main camera + 8MP f/2.4 wide-angle camera + 3D depth-sensing), an 8MP f/2.0 front-facing camera, a 10,050mAh battery, 8 speakers, and a USB Type-C port.

Both MatePad Pro tablets run on HarmonyOS 2 which have several tablet-specific features to boost productivity:

  • Bottom Dock will show frequently used apps on the left and recently used apps on the right for easy access.
  • Service Widgets allows you to swipe up on app icons to view key information or control certain functions.
  • Mouse Hover Preview lets you preview the content of a certain app by hovering the mouse cursor over it.
  • Control Panel is a consolidated centre to manage the tablet and get connected with others.
  • Mirror Mode allows you to mirror the content on the laptop display on the tablet, which you can use the tablet as a writing pad.
  • Extend Mode enables you to drag a certain task on the laptop onto the tablet and convert the tablet into a monitor for multitasking.
  • Collaborate Mode allows your laptop and tablet to share the laptop keyboard, and use the mouse simultaneously on both screens. You can also drag files and text between the two devices.
  • Multi-Window gives you the option to view multiple documents on the same screens. Up to four apps can be displayed at the same time.
  • App Multiplier is upgraded to support to run two separate tasks within one app. As of June 2021, there are almost 4,000 apps that are compatible with this feature.

Huawei also introduced the second-generation M-Pencil and the Smart Magnetic Keyboard.

The M-Pencil has a platinum-coated nib for a more natural writing and drawing experience. It also boasts 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt sensitivity. There is a sensing area on the stylus which you can tap twice to switch between brush and eraser. You can recharge the M-Pencil by magnetically attaching it to the side of the MatePad Pro. A full charge delivers up to 10 hours of usage while a 30-second charge is able to let you draw and write for about 10 minutes.
