Huawei brings full wearable range to Singapore, including the 14-day battery Watch GT

Huawei Wearables

While the major news for the Mate 20 series have taken over headlines, they're not the only products that Huawei is bringing to market this November. Along with the recent Mate 20 X retail availability announcement, Huawei has quietly sneaked in their entire range of wearables too.

Huawei Watch GT and Band 3 Pro

On paper, the Huawei Watch GT seems like a monster of a smartwatch, with a dual-core processor, built-in GPS, real-time per-second heart rate monitoring (TruSeen 3.0), 50m water resistance, a bright 1.39-inch (454 x 454 pixels) AMOLED screen, and a massive 14-day battery life. However, there is a catch, the 14-day battery life is when GPS is turned off. With GPS enabled, you only get 22 hours of battery. Of course, Huawei will point out that this is still higher than the Apple Watch S4's 18-hour battery life. The Watch GT also features an altimeter, barometer and compass, including other standard health features such as sleep monitoring (TruSleep 2.0) and exercise coaching software.

The only thing the Watch GT seems lacking is NFC support, which means you can't use it for contactless payments like the Samsung Galaxy Watch or Apple Watch can. Interestingly, like Samsung, Huawei has opted to develop its own smartwatch OS as the Watch GT doesn't seem to be running on Google's Wear OS.

The Watch GT features a classy circular dress watch design that's both lightweight (46g without strap) and thin (10.6mm). It will come in two variants: Classic Edition and Sport Edition. From what we can tell, the only difference is the color of the crown and included strap. The Classic Edition boasts a stainless steel crown with DLC (Diamond Like Coating) and a leather strap, while the Sport Edition is all black with a black silicon strap. I had a chance to check out the Watch GT during the London launch, and it certainly looks the part.

The Huawei Band 3 Pro, on the other hand, is the latest premium activity wristband tracker from the company featuring a large, 0.95-inch AMOLED color clickable touchscreen. The Band 3 Pro is waterproof to 50m so you can take it for swims, has built-in GPS so you can leave your phone behind for runs, and feature Huawei's newest IR-based heart rate sensor called TruSeen 3.0, which boasts continuous real-time heart rate monitoring by the second, and more advanced sleep monitoring data through TruSleep 2.0.

These advanced features are similar to the Watch GT, enough that the Band 3 Pro can be considered a Watch GT lite.

Huawei Band 3e

The Band 3e on the other hand, despite having the Band 3 naming convention, is an entry-level activity tracker, and by activity, I mean mostly just steps and distance. It does not have any other advanced sensors, no GPS and no heart-rate monitor.

What it does have is an interesting Footwear Mode, where you can attach the Band 3e to your shoes, for extremely detailed step tracking. It uses a 6-axis gyroscope that can monitor things like foot strike patterns, ground contact time, step length, swing distance, and landing angle.

It does have 50m water resistance, however, so it can be used for swim tracking too.

Huawei TalkBand B5

One of the more innovative wearable devices to come out of Huawei in the past year is also making its way to Singapore in November. The TalkBand B5 looks very much like the Band 3 Pro. It's a rectangular bracelet-style activity tracker that is also a Bluetooth headset. That's right, just pop the main unit out of its bracelet, and stick it in your ear. Voila!

As an activity tracker, the TalkBand B5 features a large 1.13-inch AMOLED touchscreen. It does feature a heart-rate sensor and sleep monitoring but does not feature built-in GPS. Water resistance is also only rated at IP57, so we wouldn't take this into the pool.

As a Bluetooth headset, Huawei doesn't reveal too much about the TalkBand B5, but they do say it features a triple-core audio chipset, supports HD Audio and has a noise-canceling dual mic setup. The TalkBand B5 is rated for up to 3.5-days of battery life for activity tracking, or up to 6 hours of talk time.

All the above products will begin selling in Singapore on 22 November 2018 during the SITEX show, and also at all Huawei Concept Stores and selected consumer electronics stores.
