HTC to unveil a AR/VR headset at CES 2023
HTC plans to release a new flagship virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) headset at CES 2023.
Shen Ye, HTC's global head of product, shared with The Verge in an exclusive interview that the headset is small, lightweight and will deliver full-featured VR and AR features.
The upcoming headset will have a goggles-like design with cameras on the front and the sides. The cameras will relay a colour video feed to the user to offer a mixed reality experience.
HTC says the headset can be used for gaming, entertainment, exercisee, and "even some of the more powerful use cases." Other specs shared by Ye include a two-hour battery life, support for controllers with six degrees of freedom, hand tracking, a depth sensor, and advanced privacy protections on the data stored by the cameras.
This would be HTC's first launch of a VR/AR headset in two years. The company unveiled the Vive Pro 2 and Focus 3 in May 2021. It also launched the first PC-based VR system in Singapore five years ago.
