HTC is planning to cut a quarter of its global workforce to better manage its resources.

According to Reuters, HTC will be cutting 1,500 jobs at its manufacturing unit in Taiwan. It employs about 6,450 staff globally as of June.

"Today HTC announces plan toust optimize the manufacturing organizations in Taiwan ... This plan will allow more effective and flexible resource management going forward," HTC said.

The streamlining of its workforce will be completed by end of September and is part of the company’s bigger plan to bring its smartphone and VR businesses under the same leadership in each region.

Earlier this year, HTC announced a restructuring of its business in the U.S which saw the retrenchment of employees. The move came shortly after Chialin Chang, the President of Smartphone and Connected Devices Business, resigned from his position to pursue his “personal career plan”.
