HTC and Beats Audio Collaborating on Music Streaming Service?

The strategic partnership between HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre may soon enter a new level with a rumored music streaming service in the works.

According to GigaOm, inside sources alleged that the chairman of Beats, Jimmy Iovine, is currently working with HTC to develop a music streaming service. It will then be offered as the default music service on future HTC phones and tablets.

The music streaming service may not be free as HTC is said to be working on the pricing plans and other details. It is expected to be launched at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012 along with a range of new devices. GigaOm added that the devices will be available in Q2 2012.

2012 is shaping up to be an important year for HTC as it reported weak sales in Q4 2011 due to stiff competition from Apple and Samsung. HTC is investing a lot of efforts to differentiate its products from the crowd and remain relevant.

Its customized user interface, HTC Sense will get an update to version 4.0 with Beats Audio as one of its standard features. Are these developments part of the company's new strategy to "focus on the product" this year? We will know in two week's time at MWC 2012.
