HP's new Elite Dragonfly defies traditional business notebooks with zero drawbacks

Alex Cho, President (Personal Systems) at HP kicked off the unveiling event to showcase the brand new Elite Dragonfly.

Is a zero-drawback business notebook possible? HP likes to think so with its brand new Elite Dragonfly that's specifically designed with the next-gen mobile workforce in mind.

With more millennials making up the workforce these days, HP thinks a new breed of business notebooks are needed to tackle the more demanding expectations. Coupled with the travel/cost limitation of owning a car in mega cities, thin and light design attributes are increasingly a necessity in enabling better mobility solutions.

To that extent, HP challenged their engineers to come up with a no-compromise business notebook at about 1kg that is powerful, durable and maintain the quality expectations of an Elitebook class of business notebooks. The end result is the new Elite Dragonfly at under 1kg (to be exact, 999g) and it boasts almost everything you could ask for:-

  • New chassis material: CNC milled Magnesium alloy chassis
  • Oleophobic coating: Helps repel smudges, oil stains, fingerprints - in short, easy to clean
  • World's highest screen-to-body ratio at 86% (for a business convertible notebook)
  • High brightness screen option (up to 1,000 nits bright!)
  • 8th generation Intel Core vPro quad-core processor (launched this year, based on Whiskey Lake)
  • A fully convertible notebook with x360 flexibility (similar to other x360 class HP products)
  • Touch and inking capabilities
  • Storage configurations up to 2TB
  • RAM specced up to 16GB
  • Ultra-long battery life (up to 16.5 hrs or 24.5 hrs - two battery config options for weight or stamina)
  • Super-fast charge (50% battery life in 30 minutes)
  • Super-fast Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, 4x4 antenna configuration and even LTE options
  • Best keyboarding experience (super quiet + tactile + good key travel)
  • HP Workwell to remind you of your wellbeing personalized to your usage
  • Secure and manageable
  • Rugged road warrior: Undergoes 19 MIL-STD-810G tests
  • World's first notebook with ocean-bound plastic material that's responsible to the environment

Ultra-thin bezels for this touch-screen business notebook and it's a convertible too!

This 13.3-inch rugged ultraportable is so well decked out that there's literally no immediate compromises we can think of. Perhaps no SD card slot? But that's probably nitpicking as it's not targeted towards creative professionals who might need to slot in removable storage cards on the move and is easily solved with an external USB hub with card reader options.

The new HP Elite Dragonfly is slated for to hit retail sometime in November 2019 with a starting price point from US$1,649 and it will be available worldwide. We'll update this story when we've more details on pricing and local configuration information. For now, expect the display options to come in several varieties from a low-power FHD screen, a high-brightness FHD screen, and a 4K UHD option.

Meanwhile, stay tuned!
