Venus Optics brings you closer with their new Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra-Macro Lens

Following their 60mm f/2.8 2:1 Macro and 15mm f/4 Wide Angle Macro lenses, Venus Optics has moved to again create yet another unique lens dedicated to the world of macro photography. That’s the Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra-Macro lens, and as the name implies, is a lens dedicated to give you images with a magnification of 2.5 to 5 times.

How the magnifications compare.

It has a lens design that uses eight elements in six groups with one low-dispersion element for excellent sharpness across different magnifications, and to greatly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing. The wider focal length of 25mm also gives you slightly deeper depth of field as compared to more telephoto lenses with their longer focal length. This means you don’t have to stack as many images to get even sharpness across the frame, which is always good as there’ll be less post processing.

Weighing less than 400g and measuring just 82mm long, the lens has a minimum focusing distance of 17.3 cm at 5X magnification, and 23.4cm at 2.5X magnification, so there will be plenty of space for light to hit your subjects. An optional rotating tripod collar is also available should you wish to use a tripod for maximum stability.

The lens is available for pre-order now from Venus Optics for US$399.00, with shipping expected to start from late March.
