Despite U.S President Trump's support for ZTE, the House Appropriations Committee unanimously voted to uphold the ban and reinforce sanctions against the Chinese telecommunciations company.

ZTE was slapped with a 7-year ban on using American components in its devices last month, which resulted in it ceasing "major operating activities" in the U.S. The Chinese telecommunications company apparently broke U.S trade control laws by illegally supplying Iran and North Korea with U.S tech.

Samsung is reportedly trying to sell its Exynos chipsets to ZTE since the Chinese telecommunications company could not use Qualcomm chipsets for its smartphones. However, it is unclear whether ZTE will eventually take the offer.
