HomePod's sales estimated to be bleak this year, lower-cost model being planned?
Following the report by Bloomberg on Apple lowering forecasts and orders for the HomePod speaker, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shares his prediction on the sales numbers for the smart speaker this year.
Kuo's report claims that Apple could sell between 2 to 2.5 million units of the HomePod in 2018, with a million of those coming from the first month pent-up demand. In other words, Apple is only expected to sell another 1 to 1.5 million units for the rest of the year.
His report did not confirm about the existence of the rumored low-cost HomePod model. This suggests that he might have evidence of prototypes, but it is not enough for him to determine that Apple has given the approval for mass production.
The HomePod speaker is currently sold in the U.S, the U.K and Australia. Consumers in France and Germany can expect to buy the HomePod sometime in spring.
