Most high-end planar magnetic driver headphones are difficult to drive and require powerful amplifiers to sound their best. Just ask anyone who has owned Hifiman's legendary HE-6 headphones.

The newest headphones from Hifiman, however, were designed to be extremely easy to drive.

Called the Ananda, which is Sanskrit for bliss, these headphones were designed to be easy to drive so that owners can get the maximum performance regardless of their source.

With an impedance of just 25 ohms and a sensitivity rating of 103 dB/mW, the Ananda should play well out of any source, including smartphones and tablets.

According to Hifiman's founder and CEO, Dr. Fang Bian, the idea was to create a set of headphones for music lovers who want a single set of high-end headphones that could sound good out of any system. This would also give owners greater flexibility in enjoying their music.

From Dr. Fang Bian:

"Ananda is designed for music lovers who want one high-performance, extraordinarily comfortable headphone for all personal listening, whether it’s a home system, high-resolution portable player, or an everyday smartphone."

That said, one thing you should note is that the Ananda has an open-back design, so it's probably not a great idea to take it with you on your morning commute.

Still, at least you will be able to enjoy the Ananda anywhere at home and not be glued to your desk and headphone amplifier.

The Hifiman Ananda will be available in Singapore from AV One in two to three weeks and will be priced at $1,499.
