Here’s an early peek at the new Google Glass for work

Google Glass for work

Google sparked off speculation that it was killing its Glass augmented reality eyewear when it halted sales in January this year. But as we now know, it was really going back to the drawing board in an attempt to refine the design and use cases to try and stave off the ire directed at some of its users (or glassholes). As previously reported, the next generation of Google Glass will be designed for the workspace, and in just-published Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filings, the new wearable looks slimmer than ever and is even foldable.

The new version will reportedly support Wi-Fi on the 5GHz band and feature a built-in battery, faster Intel Atom processor, and an improved camera. According to The Wall Street Journal, the familiar prism also makes a return, but it is now larger and can offer an expanded field of view of Glass’ floating display.

Furthermore, the device is supposedly waterproof and more durable in order to withstand drops and other physical damage it might sustain on factory floors and other industrial workplaces.

Still, despite what looks like a concrete design, Google has not yet confirmed the device’s existence, and we probably won’t hear about a release date or price for some time. Nevertheless, partners in Google’s Glass for Work program have reportedly already received hundreds of units of the next-generation Glass, and may even have the freedom to design proprietary software to tailor the device to fit their unique needs. But for the rest of us, it's impossible to say if and when we will see a consumer version of Glass.
