Here are two reasons why Apple's new AirPods are delayed

When Apple announced that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus would no have a 3.5mm audio jack, it also showed us their new AirPods.

These were tiny wireless headphones that sync quickly to iPhones and have sensors that could automatically pause and resume music depending on whether you were wearing them or not.

It's a pretty cool piece of kit and they were expected to ship in October. Unfortunately, it's already almost the end of the year and we still don't know when exactly they will be available in retail.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the reason for the delay is that Apple is working on properly synchronization audio to the two headphones.

In most wireless headphones, audio is transmitted to a single earpiece, which then relays the signal to the other earpiece. However, the AirPods will receive signals independently from the source device. As a result, the signals must be perfectly synchronized otherwise it will result in noticeable distortion.

However, popular Apple blogger John Gruber believes that such issues would have long been ironed out and said that it is likely that Apple has run into a manufacturing problem.

Gruber said that issues of synchronization would have long been sorted out before production and said that Apple discovered that it is more difficult to manufacture the AirPods at scale than expected.
