Super Mario is celebrating his 35th anniversary with a bang.

Nintendo just released a new Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct, showing off a whole bunch of new games coming to the Nintendo Switch console. These games vary from brand-new titles like Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit to classic re-releases, like Super Mario 64.

Let’s run down the list!

Super Mario All-Stars (Out now)

This classic Super NES game includes upgraded versions of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3 with 16-bit graphics. The whole package is now available for Nintendo Switch Online members.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars (September 18, 2020)

For nostalgic fans of classic Mario games, this was likely the highlight of the entire direct. Nintendo is optimising a trio of games: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy, all in one bundle. These games will be available to play at a higher resolution, with a new in-game music player containing songs from all three games.

This particular release is a mixed bag. For one thing, it doesn’t include Super Mario Galaxy 2 - which got entirely ignored in this direct for unknown reasons. For another, Super Mario 3D All-Stars will only be available in limited production until March 31, 2021. That means that you only have until the end of March 2021 to get this game. At that point, it’ll be wiped off Nintendo’s eShop, and you’ll have to rely on third parties to score a physical copy.

Nintendo doing stupid stuff like this shouldn’t be the norm, but it unfortunately is.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit (October 16, 2020)

Nintendo is teaming up with Velan Studios to make a cool new Mario Kart game that relies on your real-world surroundings. You’ll race with a physical kart, using ‘gates’ to build a custom course layout in your very own home. The kart will interact with boosts and in-game items on your Nintendo Switch, and respond accordingly in the real world. It can also be played with up to four players in local multiplayer mode.

Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. (November 13, 2020)

Inspired by the original Game & Watch systems launched in 1980, this handheld device lets you play a game - and functions as a watch at the same time. You’ll be able to play the original Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, plus, “a special version of Ball with a Mario makeover.” It’s a nifty little limited edition item for diehard fans out there, who just so happen to be missing a watch too.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (February 12, 2021)

The Wii U game is getting enhanced for the Nintendo Switch! Super Mario 3D World will feature online and local multiplayer, with other new additions that Nintendo plans to reveal later. New amiibo figures for Cat Mario and Cat Peach will also launch alongside the game, for those collectors out there.

Super Mario Bros. 35 (October 1, 2020)

They’ve finally done it, the absolute mad lads. They’ve created a battle royale Super Mario game! Super Mario Bros. 35 pits 35 players against each other, to be the last Mario running in a twisted version of the original game. Any enemy you beat during a match will be sent to other players’ courses, and vice versa. This game will launch as a digital-only exclusive for Nintendo Switch Online members, and stops being playable on March 31, 2021. Again, why?

Nintendo also recently worked with LEGO to release Mario-themed sets and a Nintendo Entertainment System set.
