Think fast hypercars and you are probably thinking of something Italian or maybe German. However, the first car capable of hitting the magical 300mph mark might not come from Italy or German. It might, in fact, come from the good old US of A. Sealy, Texas, to be exact.

Created by John Hennessey, this is the Hennessey Venom F5. It is the successor the wildly fast 270mph Venom GT and John thinks that it will be able to hit 300mph (483km/h).

Power comes from a purpose-built 7.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 and is it capable of churning out 1,600hp and a bonkers 1,762nm of torque - that's more than the Venom GT and the Bugatti Chiron, in case you were wondering.

All that power is sent only to the rear wheels via a 7-speed single clutch paddle-shift gearbox. To prevent the Venom F5 from constantly spinning out, the car has a clever GPS-based traction control system that can only be turned off at above 140mph (225km/h).

The Venom F5 has a lower drag coefficient too. The old Venom GT had a drag coefficient of 0.44Cd, but the new Venom F5's drag coefficient is just 0.33Cd.

Performance is naturally ballistic. John's predicts that the Venom F5 will hit 186mph (300km/h) in under 10 seconds and will hit 249mph (400km/h) in under 20 seconds. Top speed, according to his calculations, is 301mph (485km/h).

Yup, the Venom F5 will do be hurtling forwards in excess of 300km/h by the time most family sedans hit 100km/h.

Unlike Bugatti, because the Venom F5 is significantly lighter, tires will not be a limiting factor.

John said, "Tires are a limiting factor for Bugatti. But I don’t believe they’re a limiting factor for us. When we do our math, we know that we are not overloading them. We’re not even close to the load specification of the tyres at our speeds.”

The Venom F5 is currently on display at the SEMA show and John plans for a top speed run sometime next year.

In addition, only 24 Venom F5 cars will be built and it will have a starting price of US$1.6 million (S$2.18 million).
