Harman Kardon’s new Citation 500 is a multi-room capable smart speaker

Said to be inspired by the “timelessness and attention to detail” of Nordic design, the Citation 500 was created in partnership with Kvadrat, Europe’s leading design textiles manufacturer. As such, the speaker features a unique blended wool fabric that’s both dirt repellent and flame retardant.

Multi-room capabilities means you can pair the Citation 500 with another for true stereo sound, or link it up with other speakers from the Citation line-up for 5.1 channel surround sound. Multi-room audio capabilities match nicely with the speaker’s ability to access music sources over both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi so you can easily fill your entire home with music.

The touch screen shows you album artwork in full color.

If you get tired of using the color touch display to go through settings and tracks, Google Assistant support means you can do it all via voice, and even control other Google Assistant-enabled smart devices in the home too.

The speaker is capable of HD Audio streaming at up to 24bits/9gkHz, and can output up to 200W of sound thanks to two 25mm tweeters and two 131mm woofers. It supports Bluetooth 4.2 and dual-band Wi-Fi transmission over both the 2.4G and the 5G frequencies. It measures 374 x 212 x 172 mm and weighs 7.6kg. The list price announced is €649 (about S$1,036) and will be available for pre-order from from end September.
