Half-Life 2 has gotten an unofficial VR port demo using Alyx's engine

Ah, good old Half-Life 2. It's one of the greatest sci-fi titles ever made (fight me), and the game that established the crowbar as "the weapon of free men everywhere". Granted, the latter was mostly for the sake of the pun, but there's no doubt the game itself was stellar for its time.

Speaking of which, with the recent release of the VR-exclusive Half-Life: Alyx, some people, like modder Vect0R decided that the existing "VR versions" of Half-Life 2 could do with a little facelift. As such, he's done up a new and improved VR demo of the latter, plugging in the original map file into Alyx's Source 2 engine, plus a few other item assets. Check out the showcase video! Unfortunately, that's all he (and other modders) can really do at the moment since Valve hasn't expressed any interest in releasing the full Software Development Kit, or SDK for the Source 2 engine. Nevertheless, it's an improvement from before.

Prior to Source 2, all modders had to work with if they wanted to create such ports were some clunky foundations appropriated from Garry's Mod, and needless to say, those weren't exactly ideal for the job. But now, with Alyx functioning as a "base", everything is a lot smoother, and Vect0R's work is the closest we've gotten so far to an actual VR revisitation of this classic sci-fi gem.
