Gross revenue of Pokémon Go is more than some of this year's biggest movies
Despite having a steep drop in daily active users, Pokémon Go is still making a lot of money for Niantic.
According to app analytics firm Sensor Tower, Pokémon Go has generated more than US$440 million in gross revenue worldwide on the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store since its launch in July. For Niantic, net revenue is estimated at more than US$308 million. To put this into perspective, Pokémon Go did better than some of the biggest blockbuster movies this year such as Warcraft, Independence Day: Resurgence, and Star Trek Beyond.
Sensor Tower also acknowledged that Pokémon Go is losing its appeal; global installs of the app have decreased in the past few weeks, but active users continue to spend a lot of time in the game daily. On average, users in the U.S spend about 32 minutes. Well, it seems that there is a core group of users who still want to be the very best and going to catch' em all.
