Following the Wall Street Journal's report on Google merging Android and Chrome OS, a senior Google executive has stepped forward to clarify on the matter.

According to Android and Chrome OS SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer, Google is "very committed to Chrome OS" as there is still "a ton of momentum for Chromebooks". In addition, a Google spokesperson told The Verge that Chrome OS will not be "killed".

The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that Google's engineers have been working for about two years to merge Android and Chrome OS. A beta version of the combined OS is said to be previewed early next year with the consumer-ready version scheduled for release in 2017.
