Google’s foldable phone rumours are kept alive every time the company does something seemingly ordinary.

Tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo recently shared some updates around Google’s upcoming Pixel 7 phones. Less surprising is that the Pixel 7 series models will be manufactured by Foxconn (which has been the case since the Pixel 3).

More surprising, however, is that the rumours mention the foldable Pixel phone yet again. This time, the unnamed foldable is said to have a 2K resolution display, a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, and a 50MP periscope-styled camera at the back that offers variable focal lengths. The rumours also said both Pixel 7 and the foldable Pixel would use Google’s second-generation version of Google Tensor.

What we know about the Foldable Pixel so far

Here’s a quick recap: Google’s Pixel 7 and 7 Pro’s late 2022 launch were officially confirmed by the U.S. technology giant, but has only shared two concrete details: the new series will have a Camera Bar design similar to the existing Pixel 6 and Pixel 6a models, and that it will have a 2022 version of Google’s proprietary chipset, Google Tensor. In addition, there were no mentions of a foldable version of Pixel.

Despite the company’s silence over any foldable versions of its phones, it has left tons of development-related breadcrumbs within its working documents for a while. An example is the Google Camera app, which has steadily received configuration updates for a possible foldable device by Google (and that’s still going on up until a few weeks ago). Other leak informants have also looked into the foldable’s possible display size, the phone’s panel choices, and the many changes to its name (Notepad? Fold? Passport?).

Guess we’ll have to wait until Pixel 7 to know if the foldable is actually happening this time.
