Google reportedly postponed the launch of the Pixel Fold
Google's first foldable phone may only be announced next year.
Sources familiar with the matter told TheElec that Google has postponed the launch of its foldable phone as the product is not "being as complete as Google wishes".
Google's first foldable phone, codenamed passport, was initally slated for launch in 2021. It is said to be working with Samsung Display to develop a 7.6-inch OLED panel. However, files within the Google Camera app revealed that the foldable phone was likely to launch this year.
The global component shortage and fierce competition posed by Samsung's foldable phones apparently caused Google to put the product on hold last year. 9to5Google reported in January that Google has decided to call the foldable phone "Pixel Notepad", which revived speculation that it was back on track. Display analyst Ross Young claimed earlier this month that Google may use a 5.8-inch cover screen for the foldable phone.
